About the event

We are excited to invite you to join us for a special celebration in honor of National Native Heritage Month. The Dickinson Music Enrichment Center (TDMEC) is hosting a vibrant and culturally enriching event on November 10th, and we would be delighted to have your presence to commemorate this significant occasion.

Event Highlights:

  1. Native-Themed Chalk Art Contest for Youth:This creative and engaging contest allows young artists to showcase their talents through native-themed chalk art. The contest celebrates and honors Native American heritage through artistic expression, providing a platform for young minds to connect with cultural traditions.
  2. Frybread Meals with Ice Cream Dessert:Indulge in delicious traditional frybread meals, a staple in Native American cuisine, accompanied by delightful ice cream desserts. This meal aims to offer a rich cultural culinary experience for all attendees.
  3. Fundraising Auction:We will be hosting an auction featuring unique and captivating items, including Native-themed art guitars created by art students at Clear Creek ISD and a distinctive water fountain crafted by renowned Canadian sculptor Douglas Walker. Proceeds from the auction will support TDMEC's initiatives and programs, furthering our mission to provide comprehensive music education to economically disadvantaged children.
  4. Native Dance Performances:Enjoy captivating performances, showcasing traditional Native American dances. These performances are not only entertaining but also deeply enriching, providing insight into the cultural heritage and traditions of Native communities.
  5. Native Inspired Family Crafts      Area:
  • Corn Husk Dolls - Make traditional corn husk dolls, a Native American craft that uses dried corn husks, string, and markers. These dolls can be simple or elaborately decorated, and they offer a chance to learn about Native American history and traditions.
  • Totem Poles - Create miniature totem poles using cardboard tubes (like toilet paper rolls), construction paper, and markers. Each family member can design a section of the totem pole, representing different animals or symbols that are meaningful to them.
  • Dream Catchers - Create traditional dream catchers using hoops, string, beads, and feathers. Dream catchers are believed to protect sleepers from bad dreams and are a beautiful craft that kids can personalize with different colors and decorations.

Purpose:This event aims to celebrate National Native Heritage Month by promoting cultural awareness, fostering community engagement, and supporting the ongoing efforts of TDMEC. Through these activities, we hope to honor the rich history and contributions of Native American communities while bringing together people of all backgrounds in a spirit of unity and appreciation.
